A long stay, on evidence
Most people who ask us about the DTV fall into one of three groups, and the third is the one people are surprised to find they are in.
What the DTV is, in plain terms
A long-validity visa for people whose work or activity is based outside Thailand, allowing repeated entries over its life rather than one continuous stay.
The qualifying routes
There are separate categories, and they ask for different things. Which one you apply under decides the entire shape of your file, so it is worth being certain before anything is gathered.
Dependants
Family members can be included, on their own evidence and their own conditions. What that evidence is depends on the relationship and on the route you qualify under.
What it does not give you
A DTV is not a licence to forget about paperwork. You will still report your address, and you will still need to think about the 90-day report.

Evidence, and its failures
The section that decides the application, and the one people spend the least time on.
What counts as evidence
Applications are refused on the quality of the paperwork, not on the merits of the person. A contract without dates, a bank statement in the wrong name, a letter with no letterhead: these are the failures we see.
A document that would satisfy a colleague is not the same as a document that will satisfy a reader who has never met you and is working through a hundred files.
Evidence standards, by route
Each qualifying route asks for a different kind of proof, and the standard within each is specific rather than general.
Refusal patterns
Refusals cluster. The same three or four weaknesses account for most of them, and every one of them is visible on the desk before the file is sent anywhere. That is the entire argument for having someone read it first.
